Catalan crisis: Puigdemont under pressure over independence bid

Pressure is rising on Catalonia's President Carles Puigdemont over his regional government's drive for independence from Spain. He had been due to make a statement to clarify his position, but the move has been suspended , officials said. The Spanish Government plans to strip the regional government and Mr Puigdemont of their powers Article 155 of the Spanish constitution lets Madrid take control of institution, police and finances. Mr Puigdemont declared independence after a referendum on 1 October, which was ruled illegal by Spain's constitutional court. But the Catalan leader immediately suspended implementations, calling for talks. The Spanish from Mr Puigdemont was expected on Thursday. Large crowds gathered outside the regional government building in Barcelona, with many hoping that he would declare independence. Kenya election:voting amid tightened security and unrest

Kenya's are voting amid tight security in  re-run of the presidential election, which is being boycotted by the main opposition. A teenage boy was shot by police and later died amid clashes in Kisumu, an opposition stronghold where some have blocked access to polling stations. President Uhuru Kenyatta was declared the winner in an august vote,but it is being held again over "irregularities". Turnout appears high in ruling party strongholds but lower elsewhere. Mr Kenyatta  is seeking a second term.opposition leader Raila Odinga has pulled out of the contest. The polls opened at 06:00 [03:00 GMT] with tens of thousands of police and other security staff deployed to protect voters and polling stations. Japan PM Shinzo Abe promises to deal with North Korea threat

Japanese prime Minister Shizo Abe has promised to "deal firmly" with North Korea after exit polls suggested he won a clear victory in Sunday's election.  Mr Abe had said he called the election a year early in order to increase his mandate amid a number of 'crises"facing the country.  Among them was the increasing threat that Pyongyang. Nigerian pop singer, Davido, is bound to be having sleepless nights at the moment, not because he's sick, but principally, because of the turn of events in his life following the death of his friends, Tagbo and Dj Olu, who both died on different days under mysterious circumtances. 7 billion Naira alleged fraud: EFCC files charges against oil firms,directors

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, has filed charges against two oil service companies and their directors for allegedly defrauding a bank of over 7 billion Naira.  Ogbor Kehinde Eliot, Godwin Okoronkwo, Danium Energy services Ltd and Petrosol  Energy Limited in the charge before a federal high court in Lagos, were alleged to have defrauded Fidelity Bank Plc of 7.8 Billion Naira.  The accused persons are yet to be arraigned.  EFCC, in the charge by prosecuting counsel, Rotimi Oyedepo, said the accused on or about October 5, 2016 in Lagos, with intent to defraud, conspired to induce Fidelity Bank Plc to deliver to Danium Energy services Ltd the sum of N1,573,146,000. The commission said it was under the false pretense that Total Nigeria Plc contracted Danium Energy services Ltd o supply 10,000 Metric Tons of Automotive Gas Oil [AGO] for the sum of N1,990,440,000. CAC now registers foreign investors from UK, USA, China- Muhmud

The Corporate Affairs Commission [CAC],says it has made provisions for foreign investor planning to invest in Nigeria to register their companies from UK, USA and China without coming into the country. Register-General of CAC, Mr Bello Muhmud, who made this known at a formal presentation of Q Quality Management Service [QMS] standard certification to the commission in Abuja, said that the certification of international standard organisation [ISO] had enhanced the service delivery of the commission. He added that the commission obtained its first certification based on NIS ISO 9001:2000 standard in 2007. Muhmud said that as a result of the introduction of the introduction of NIS ISO 9001:2008 standards, the Commission converted and obtained a new certification in 2010 for a period of three years that expired in 2013. Multiple Grammy Award-winning Rapper Nelly has been arrested after a woman accused him of raping her in his tour bus. he was arrested on Saturday in Auburn, state of Washington in the northwestern part of U.S, according to reports. Police in Auburn said a woman called the emergency 911 just before 4:00 am local time  [11:00 GMT] "to report that she was sexually assaulted by a male, who is known as the rapper Nelly." After police investigated the incident , "at 4:37 am Nelly was taken into custody and booked" at the local jail, the police statement read. the alleged assault reportedly took place on the tour bus hours after Nelly had performed at the White River Amphitheater just east of Auburn. A lawyer for Nelly vehemently denied the charges. Army transfers 760 Boko Haram suspects to Borno Government.

The Nigeria Army on Friday said it had transferred 760 suspected Boko Haram members to Borno Government for reintegration into the society. Col. Onyema Nwachukwu, the Deputy Director,Army Public Relations, Theater Command Operations Lafiya Dole, disclosed this in a statement issued in Maiduguri. Boko Haram  members arrested. Nwachikwu said that the suspects were handed over to the government at the Bulunkutu state Rehabilitation Center, Maiduguri. He disclosed that the suspects were arrested during the ongoing crackdown on the insurgents in the North-East by troops of the operations Lafiya Dole. He explained that the suspects were cleard after interrogations and investigations by the Joint Intelligence Center [JIC] of the Theater command. U.S. cancels military exercise with UAE over Gulf crisis

The U.S. military cancelled a planned military exercise with United Arab Emirates "out of respect for the concept of inclusiveness and shared regional interests," amid the ongoing crisis in the Gulf, a spokesman said Friday. In June, several nations in the region, led by Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates, launched moves to severe diplomatic ties and isolate Qatar, charging that Doha supported Islamist extremist groups and had developed strong ties with Iran.
